Our White Skoda Octavia

Tue 9 Jul 2019 - Tue 9 Jul 2019
  • Duration:1 hour

Eastern Angles Theatre Company and playwright, Shamser Sinha would like to invite you to a sharing of Our White Skoda Octavia – a new ‘play-with-a-drum’.

Developed with support from Arts Council England, and based on interviews with people from Peterborough and Ipswich, the play tells the story of a British Pakistani family living in East Anglia at the time of the Credit Crunch in 2007 and Brexit today.

Amjad Afridi is compelled to enter taxi-driving but his sense of manhood and fortune threaten to tear the family apart and stifle his ambitious and educated wife Rabia.

Eleven years later, his daughter Yasmin and her brother Faisal encounter the beat of the past and their parents’ actions, as Yasmin seeks to enter local politics and Faisal wants out of taxi-driving.

The family's efforts to buy a Skoda Octavia threatened Rabia and Amjad's marriage…will the decision to sell it or not tear siblings Yasmin and Faisal apart?

Our White Skoda Octavia is an untold contemporary story of humour, tragedy and rhythm emerging from the British Pakistani experience and the world of a town, in the heartland of rural East England.

Join us for an hour-long sharing of scenes from this new script.

Tuesday 9th July, 4pm-5pm at Chauffeur's Cottage, St. Peter's Road, Peterborough.

Followed by refreshments and a chance to chat with the cast and playwright, Shamser Sinha.

This event is free to attend.
