DAY 1 – MONDAY
- First, I started off typing up stories EA’s Engagement Coordinator Kirsty collected in King’s Lynn as part of a new audio story project. I found this quite challenging as reading some of the handwriting and attempting to grasp some of the stories being told was tricky.
- Next, throughout the week I had the important job of organizing dates for the upcoming auditions for Teechers which I found really rewarding as I am usually on the other side, trying to audition, so it was quite surreal to find out what actually happens to my application and how they are sorted.
- Then, I planned the Playwrights Club session which I heard to be very successful.
DAY 2 – TUESDAY
- I replied and organized some more emails that were sent through.
- I then planned a warm-up for Young Company later today whilst deciding on scenes from a new play which will also be used in the session. I really enjoyed doing this.
- I also aided with the After-School Club.
- Later I participated in EA’s Young Company which is my favorite drama class so (like usual) I absolutely loved it.
DAY 3 – WEDNESDAY
- Started off with more emails.
- Then I started adapting the play Teechers to be more local and to update the slang.
- Then I started doing a script report on the new ‘Pizza, Play, Pint’ play Getting Closer by Rohan Gotobed.
- I helped with the After-School Club again.
- I also assisted with Youth Theatre with Kirsty, which I really enjoyed (the children that attend that club are lovely!!)
DAY 4 – THURSDAY
- I started the day off with EA’s Company Stage Manager Penny who taught me all about the tech side of theatre! She taught me all about different lights like the original vs the LED and what different parts of them did whilst talking about health and safety. We then went into the tech booth and tested all the lights to see if any had blown out. Then, we programmed the beginning to an imaginary scene which I really enjoyed, and it didn’t actually look that bad. Finally, we reprogrammed all of the lights to make them more organized so instead of a row being 23, 4, 16 it was 1,2,3 etc. Penny was lovely, patient and supportive.
- Later in the day I was surprised during my break by EA’s Associate Director Callum who offered to go see a play called Flumps at the Mercury theatre in Colchester. I gladly accepted and I loved the play and the experience. I am very thankful!
DAY 5 – FRIDAY
- I started off the day replying to more emails for Teechers. It feels rewarding that the Excel spreadsheet is finally nearly full!
- I then finished my script report for Getting Closer (Pizza, Play, Pint).
- I also finished updating the script for Teechers localizing it and updating the slang.
- I marked the VE Day quizzes that Youth Theatre did at the end of the session I did with them.
- I wrote a monologue including nearly all of the King’s Lynn Calling stories that Kirsty collected, I also made it child friendly and humorous to be performed by a child actor and for it to be made for a child friendly audience.
- I then finished everything I needed to do in my Work Experience booklet, a day for finishing tasks!!!
I loved being at Eastern Angles for the week and found it very interesting, I fully know that I will be working in the theatre industry for the rest of my life. I especially enjoyed learning about the tech side with Penny. I learnt so much and I now respect that side of theatre so much more. I was also very grateful to Callum who made my week as good as it could be and to Kirsty for the advice she gave me. Please pass on my thanks and regards to them and to all the others who made my week so memorable and worthwhile.
Once again, many thanks and my best wishes to all Eastern Angles. It makes me so proud to be a part of this company.
