Learning

Learning is a key component of everything we do. Whether it’s by producing programmes crammed with background information and historical context, offering post-show talks allowing audiences an insight into the theatre-making process, running participatory projects that give people the chance to develop their own skills and interests, or employing interns and apprentices to help deliver our work, we have a range of learning opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.

Children dressed as evacuees sit around/on a bench on a train platform, a man in clothing of the era stands in front of them. A man holding a large camera films all of them together.

Here are some of the ways we help people learn about our work:

Performances & workshops at our venues

School & college groups, heritage interest groups and community drama groups are encouraged to talk to us about special performance/workshops packages. Your group can visit our venue and watch a performance. This can be followed up by a Theatre Skills workshop tailored to your requirements. Whether you are interested in the historical theme of the production, the writer’s research and writing process, the way the director and performers have interpreted the script, or the practicalities of staging the performance, we can design a post-show workshop to address your educational needs.

Performances & workshops at your School or College

Now and then we produce shows that can be toured to schools and colleges during the day, slotting into the school timetable. These performances can include post-show talks or follow-up workshops. Our productions allow Drama students and teaching staff to find out more about techniques such as verbatim theatre, poor theatre, site-specific theatre and the practicalities of touring theatre. The themes we cover are also useful starting points for discussion around curriculum areas such as Social, Personal & Health Education, Religious Education, Philosophy and History. Do get in touch if you would like to find out more about hosting an Eastern Angles performance at your school or college.

Community Participation

We often work on projects that require the help of Community Participants. Involvement opportunities vary from script-writing, acting and stage-managing to prop-making and technical assistance and marketing. We advertise opportunities as they arise, but if you would like find out more about future plans, please do get in touch.

Arts Award

Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership experience: it's creative, valuable and accessible. Arts Award qualifications can be achieved at five levels: Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold. The scheme was developed by Arts Council England and Trinity College London is the awarding body.

Eastern Angles is an Arts Award Supporter. This means we offer a range of activities, events, expertise and resources that can help young people work towards gaining their Arts Award.
