The Walsingham Organ

Wed 27 Feb 2002 - Wed 1 May 2002

An explosive tale of love unrealised

BOOM! Bonfire Night 1866 in Walsingham, Norfolk, was long remembered for the excellence of its fireworks, not least because the recently installed organ of St. Mary's got blown skyhigh!

The finger of suspicion first pointed at the church band, who had been replaced by the said organ, then at the local builder who had turned the head of Charlotte, the vicar's young protégé. But who then rigged up a devilish contraption in a local shop window featuring a policeman chasing a coffin containing an effigy of the Reverend Septimus Lee-Warner?

Music, mystery and romance combine to take the lid off a parish scandal, a village injustice and a wholly Norfolk can of worms.
