HighTide Rising, a one-day celebration of new plays from the East of England is back!
This year HighTide have teamed-up with Eastern Angles and the New Wolsey Theatre to bring you a jam-packed day of rehearsed readings, workshops, talks, and networking events.
Join us in Ipswich as we present 6 extracts of new plays written by the members of our inaugural HighTide Writers Group Marie Cooper, Clare Currie, Ted Marriott, Anoop Singh, Rosa Torr, Esohe Uwadiae.
These writers have deep roots in the East of England and prove that when it comes to producing new plays, we’re on the rise.

10.30 – 11.00 | Welcome Brunch | New Wolsey
Join us for complimentary pastries and hot drinks to officially launch HighTide Rising 2024
11.00 – 12.00 | Artists’ Bring & Buy | New Wolsey
Making new theatre is all about collaboration, bring the skills you have and ask for those you need from others in this informal networking session led by the New Wolsey theatre team.
12.30 – 13.30 | New Beginnings Writing Workshop | New Wolsey
Led by HighTide, and aimed at writers at all stages of their development. In a fun, pressure-free, and supportive setting; explore existing ideas and establish new ones, setting you on the path to discover your next play.
15.00 – 17.10 | HighTide Rising Matinee performance| Eastern Angles Centre
Enjoy short, rehearsed readings from our HighTide Writers Group 2024. On Mangrove Field (Rosa Torr), We’ll Meet Again (Ted Marriott), and Sky Songs (Clare Currie) are directed by Robert Awosusi. Two Truths and a Lie (Esohe Uwadiae), B&B (Anoop Singh), and Mnemosyne (Marie Cooper) are directed by Scott Hurran. Readings will be followed by a short Q&A. This performance includes a short interval.
17.45 – 18.45 | Meet the Artistic Directors’s panel | Eastern Angles Centre
Playwrights have many stories to tell, but which stories and writers are theatre’s interested in, and how do they go about commissioning, producing and programming their stages? Made up of Artistic Directors and Arts leaders from the region, find out what their priorities are, and ask them questions.
19.00 – 21.10 | HighTide Rising evening performance | Eastern Angles Centre
A second performance of rehearsed readings from our HighTide Writers group.
21.15 – 22.30 | Playwrights Disco | Eastern Angles Centre
Round off this packed-out day with a few drinks and some eclectic feel-good vibes. Mirror balls, colourful lights and pumping tunes will help us celebrate and mingle as we mark the end of HighTide Rising 2024.
