Our White Skoda Octavia

Wed 6 Oct 2021 - Sat 6 Nov 2021
  • Age Guidance:14+

6th October - 6th November 2021

Our White Skoda Octavia is a heartfelt story of family life told with truth, humour and tabla rhythm.

In a small town in the East of England, Amjad decides to take up taxi-driving. His days take on the rhythm of a drum. But when money is tight and Rabia's stifled ambitions hang in the air, cracks begin to appear.

Written by Shamser Sinha and directed by Sameena Hussain, this moving new play shines a light on the struggles of contemporary life as one family juggles bills, dreams and taxi-driving schemes.

Inspired by conversations with residents in Peterborough and Ipswich (funded by Arts Council England).

The reviews are in...

"A play rich with emotion, Our White Skoda Octavia seeks to communicate the gaps in between the South Asian stereotypes usually witnessed on stage...the play speaks directly to the multiculturalism of the mid-2000s that perhaps goes unnoticed" Peterborough Telegraph

"The voice Sinha gives to the cab drivers and South Asian community here in the East of England has passion and poetry and is both an urgent and vital eye opener" East Anglian Daily Times

"There is humour as well as hardship in this heartfelt story - we cannot help but sympathise with this ordinary family, and feel for them as they nurture their dreams" Reviews Hub
