Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs on performances of The Tide Jetty at Burgh Castle
How far is it to walk to the actual tide jetty?
It’s around a 10 minute walk to the turn tide jetty and a further 10-15 minute walk to the tide jetty; so 20-30 minutes in full, or up to 1 hour round trip. The terrain is flat, but there is a slope at the start.
Are there toilet on site?
Yes, we will be bringing porta loos with us.
Will there be refreshments on site?
Yes. We are bringing our lovely pavilion with us where we will be serving drinks before the show and at the interval. Please note this is a cash only bar.
Is there disabled access?
The site will have step free access from the car park to the theatre tent, however please be aware that the venue is situated on a grass field and there is compacted gravel path from the carpark to the theatre. Follow the car parking signs and ensure you’ve booked a wheelchair space in the auditorium by calling Box Office on 01473 211498 (Mon-Fri, 10am-2pm).
What should I wear?
We recommend comfy clothes and sturdy shoes as we’re on grass. We will be in a tent which doesn’t have heating. It does get warm in there if the sun is shining, but equally gets cold in the evening – keep an eye on the weather.

Where is the Sir John Mills Theatre?
Our Ipswich venue is located on Gatacre Road, off Bramford Road. We’re the Victorian building that used to be a school and is currently shared with the Suffolk Records Office.
Does the Sir John Mills Theatre have a car park?
Yes. We share a car park with the Suffolk Records Office which is free and has an overflow. We recommend arriving early to performances to secure a space. To locate the car park, go down Gatacre Road and on the right hand side are large blue gates. Enter the car park from here.
The car park is full, where else can I park?
Other car parks nearby which are pay and display include: South Street Car Park (10 min walk to theatre), Portman Road Car Park (16 min walk to theatre) or Crown Car Park (20 mins walk to theatre).
Do you have disabled parking at the Sir John Mills Theatre?
We share a car park with the Suffolk Records Office. The car park does have one accessible car parking space (a wider bay which is clearly marked). This is situated towards the entrance of the Suffolk Records Office. We advise audience members who cannot walk very far to park close to the entrance of the car park to reduce the distance to our front door.
Does the Sir John Mills Theatre have disabled access?
To gain access to the theatre there is a step up at the front door. We have a ramp to enable access to the theatre for wheelchair users. As a listed building we are unable to place a permanent ramp on the front of the building, however our removable ramp can be used at any time, simply ask the Front of House Manager or ring us prior to your visit to let us know. We also have a disabled access toilet at the theatre.
If you need to book a wheelchair seat, please ring Box Office ahead of your booking on 01473 211498 (Mon-Fri, 10am-2pm) so we can arrange theatre seating accordingly.
Do you have British Sign Language (BSL) performances?
Yes. We aim to have at least one BSL performance on our touring shows. For our Christmas show this tends to be at the Seckford Theatre in Woodbridge. For our Spring Tour, it will be a date during the run at Ipswich at the Sir John Mills Theatre. If you require any further assistance, please call Box Office on 01473 211498 (Mon-Fri, 10am-2pm). An induction loop for the hearing-impaired is available on request by calling the same number.
