A spring to remember...

12 August 2022

This spring we ventured out on the roads of East Anglia with Booming Voices, our first rural spring tour since 2019 and it was a wonderful spring for us all to remember!

Researched in the height of the pandemic and postponed until after major lockdowns, Booming Voices finally headed out on tour from April to June 2022. Interviews with reed cutters, church wardens, artists, scientists, flood modelers, ecologists, engineers, boatbuilders, anglers, weather forecasters and various site wardens were the foundations of the script. As the show toured village halls and community centres across the region, we invited interviewees to attend a performance and it was wonderful to involve them in the full process of the show, from idea to stage.

In total the show visited 24 venues and gave 32 live performances. We visited venues new and old, welcoming back our returning audiences and meeting new ones along the way. In each venue that we went to the show was warmly received, with village halls pleased to be able to host live entertainment once again and audiences giving us positive feedback on the production:

“It brought back so many happy memories of holidays on the Broads...the whole production was wonderful”

this was one of the best EA shows that we have seen”

excellent theatre...an interesting mix of voices from the Broads”

The tour came to an end with a series of performances at the Broads Life Festival held at Beccles Quay on the River Waveney. The festival was a real celebration of the Broads with boat rides on the water, Norwich Puppet Theatre performing in our dome and information stalls representing the Wildlife Trusts, Broads Authority and other local environment groups.

Our Booming Voices team performed in a theatre tent at the festival, welcoming audiences who travelled specifically for the show as well as those who had come to the festival and found us there. It was great to be involved in this wonderful event and celebrate the magic of the Broads right by the water.
