Artist in Residence at The Undercroft

8 September 2017

Meet our artist in residence at The Undercroft in Serpentine Green.

From the 31st August to the 15th September, Luke Payn will be Artist in Residence at Hampton’s first and only theatre, The Undercroft. This is part of Hampton Folktales, which is a partnership with Lamphouse Theatre and commissioned by Peterborough Presents.

Luke Payn is multi-disciplinary artist, and is currently studying an MA in Photography at Central Saint Martins. He collaborates with a diverse range of people and groups, including delivering participatory programmes, events and projects.

His work often deals with nature and our relationship to nature as mediated through image, language and events.

Already Hampton Folktales has encouraged people, to sing, write and make folk tales in previous workshops and events, but this residency will culminate all elements of the project into a experience and installation that will take over part of The Undercroft on the 16th of September which is also the date of Hampton’s first arts festival.

The three weeks preceding, Luke Payn will be in residence’ at The Undercroft, developing and producing this site specific installation for participants to engage with. He will be working to the theme of ‘water’, and will be responding to the space and the people around it. Luke Payn and the Hampton Folktales team will be doing a set of open days where visitors can come in and see the progress of the installation and also make ribbon wands and a giant’s coat.

These are the dates of the workshops:

Sunday- 3rd September from 10am-3pm

Wednesday-6th September from 10am-3pm

Sunday 10th September from 10am-3pm

Tuesday 12th September from 10am-3pm
