Bronteblog: Dear Reader
21 November 2013p>
Dear Reader,
Well, what an exciting first week! I always enjoy meeting new people - they give me such inspiration for my rudimentary storywriting. The crowd that gathered early on Monday morning are a delightful bunch.
We've been battling a bitter chill both inside and outside on the theatre this week. I must confess I have invested in a number of thermals, I layer them under my skirts which makes movement a little tricky but I tell you, it's worth it!
We have, this week, been focussing on how to tell our story. There are so many exciting elements to our production we have been having such fun experimenting with different means of conveying them to the audience. Could a monologue work instead of a song? Or vice-versa?
Our dear director has also been explaining some of the jokes to our younger and more naive cast members. I confess, I am none too worldly and thus the more 'fruity' humour passes me by entirely! Though my sister Cathy has been laughing heartily at the bawdy jokes as have our local hovellers (an early form of the lifeboat crews).
Musically, we're working hard on our harmonies and instrumental accompaniments. But we are plagued by the incessant wailing of the village ghost! Her high pitches warblings are wrecking havoc with Mr Rochester's falsetto!
If we ever feel our fervour slipping during our rehearsals however, we take a short tea break and replenish ourselves at Mrs G's bakery on the corner. We are spoilt for choice with their selection of delicious cakes and treats. Our poor costume designer is having to alter our measurements by the day!
I shan't say too much more dear Reader, but I feel we have a wurthering good Christmas show-a foot!
Best wishes,
Jane Brontë
