Call for submissions to a new audio history project, Streets Aloud!

2 February 2024

We are delighted to be launching a brand-new project called Streets Aloud! and we would love you to get involved. Thanks to funding from Babergh & Mid-Suffolk District Councils we are working with The Bank Arts Centre to create an atmospheric 30-minute audio experience inspired by the town of Eye.

The Project

The Streets Aloud! recording will be made up of poems, lyrics and short stories written by people who live, work, or attend school in Eye. We hope this project will document histories and connect people to your town - with it's history told through your words. The stories will be read by actors and will sound beautiful thanks to your talented Sound Designer, Jack Baxter.

Once it's finished, the recording will be free to access. People can enjoy listening on their headphones either at home or (ideally!) whilst wandering around town soaking up the sights, smells and sounds that provided the inspiration.

How To Get Involved

If you wish to share your story, we would love to hear from you! This opportunity is open to all and we are looking for contributors of all ages.

We are looking for personal stories inspired by the town - its history, nature, people, shops, weather, transport, animals, home...whatever fires your imagination! Things that bring you joy, fascinate you and move you. Or maybe you are facing a challenge that you want to highlight. Tell us what you care about.

We are looking for:
Poems or Song Lyrics (4 - 40 lines long)
Short Stories or Prose (100 - 500 words long)

To submit - please email your entries to Callum Berridge at callum@easternangles.co.uk

Or, send hard copy entries to Abbie Schug at The Bank Arts Centre, 2 Castle Street, Eye, IP23 7AN

If you are an individual, please include your name and contact details with your submission. If you are a teacher submitting your pupils’ work, please include your name, your class name, and your school contact details.

Deadline for submissions is Friday 1st March 2024.

Please note, we may not be able to use all submissions – it will depend on how many entries we receive. Hopefully lots! We will let you know if your words have been chosen by Friday 22nd March 2024.
