Eastern Angles 30th Anniversary Gala Event

3 July 2012

Eastern Angles marked their thirtieth anniversary at the weekend with a Gala performance of their current show at an event sponsored by Barker Gotelee Solicitors.

On Sunday 1st July the company staged a special afternoon showing of their nationally acclaimed production Margaret Catchpole for an audience including former Eastern Angles actors, directors, playwrights, founder members and Barker Gotelee sponsors and guests.

James Skellorn, Partner at Barker Gotelee said: "It is a new development for us to work with Eastern Angles. Margaret Catchpole is a first class show and the energy and attention to detail of their marketing team gives us great confidence. We look forward to working with them in the future".

Members of the public also came along to the fundraising Gala event aimed at boosting the amount of money the company raises through business sponsorship, philanthropic giving and private donations.

The Gala performance took place at the Hush House, a unique theatre space situated on the former Bentwaters airbase at Rendlesham. Eastern Angles have transformed the atmospheric aircraft hangar into a performance area using their impressive stage set, lighting and specially constructed tiered seating.

After the show audience members enjoyed a champagne reception followed by speeches from Eastern Angles' Chair of Trustees Dr Peter Funnell and the theatre company's Artistic Director, Ivan Cutting.

Dr Peter Funnell said: "Today we are celebrating 30 years of success. Looking forward we will build on the successes and the lessons of the past to ensure that the next 30 years are as successful! We will achieve this by producing theatre of quality that is original, contemporary and relevant, that satisfies the diverse demands of our existing audiences and attracts new audiences."

Margaret Catchpole, written by Alastair Cording and directed by Eastern Angles' founder Ivan Cutting, has been described by The Times' chief theatre critic Libby Purves as "Remarkable and moving" and by the Guardian critic Lyn Gardner as a show with "intelligence, openness and big-hearted appeal".

The Margaret Catchpole production will continue to run until Sunday 8th July. Over the weekend the company will be staging performances at 3.30pm & 7.30pm on Saturday & Sunday. Full-price tickets range from £16.50 - £21. For more information ring: 01473 211498 or visit: www.easternangles.co.uk
