Finnigan's Elbow: Tea And Buns And A Class Six Sin

18 December 2014

Where to begin after a sumptuously penned window on Mr Greg Wagland's work and home life. Our boiler broke down three years ago but rather than talk about triple layers of jumpers in Baltic domestic surroundings I've been asked to tell you something about what we've been getting up to and what lies in store at St Finnigan's Covent School for Girls.

The last three weeks have been full of tea, trips to the bun shop, laughter and learning extremely catchy and enjoyable original tunes that Pat has miraculously plucked from her musical brain. Oh and we blocked the play.

We are all playing a selection of characters which provides the challenge of making sure you go off as one character and making sure you come back on with both the right costume and accent for another! So far no hiccoughs in that department. Who knows what the added adrenaline of an audience will do.

Now, the last paragraph was as far with the blog as I got before production week started. I can now say that there have been a number of occasions when I have walked onto stage still clambering into one costume or another and searching frantically for a suitably witty excuse.

Other challenges faced on stage are keeping both the high energy required for this style of comedy and a straight face when conducting scenes with the aforementioned Mr G. Wagland who has an innate ability to keep you on your toes with something slightly different nearly every time. You wait for his explanation of a class six sin...!

We have already been asked "Is it getting boring doing the same play over and over again?" and we can honestly say that with such a warm reaction to the shows and the selection of fun and I quote 'peculiar' characters to inhabit for two sometimes four hours a day it's going to continue to be a very enjoyable Christmas season!

Merry Christmas!
