Fundraiser Night To Reveal Secrets of Suffolk Accent

10 May 2019

Join Eastern Angles on Friday 28th June for a special fundraising evening with Charlie Haylock.

Come along to the Sir John Mills Theatre, Ipswich where Charlie will be giving a unique insight into the evolution of the Suffolk accent.

Discover how the seed of spoken English actually started in Suffolk and how the ancient Suffolk dialect has evolved at the same time. See how each invading force affected the English language and the different sounds they brought - resulting in hilarious confusion.

Charlie will entertain us with several Suffolk oddities, explaining their derivations and perhaps that we are not so odd after all. He will also demonstrate how Shakespearean Suffolk was really spoken - very different to the Standard English productions of today.

This dialect tour will lead Charlie into explaining how Suffolk is the basis of the Australian dialect… and it's a lot more than just convicts!

The evening will end with Charlie being informally interviewed by Eastern Angles Artistic Director Ivan Cutting and an audience Q&A.

Tickets are £20, including a free drink. Profits from tickets will go towards Eastern Angles' future projects and work in the community.

An Evening with Charlie Haylock is on Friday 28th June, 7.45pm at the Sir John Mills Theatre, Ipswich. Book tickets here.
