New Documentary Musical in the Works

30 May 2017

We're currently working on a very exciting documentary play coming to Peterborough this autumn...

Delivered by Freemans is a brand new Heritage Lottery funded project exploring the stories of the Freemans Catalogue Distribution Centre, a pivotal part of Peterborough’s industry from 1969-2009.

This was the period when glossy catalogue shopping meant access to the latest fashions on a pay-per-week basis. But more importantly the stories from the people who worked there reflect the camaraderie and community spirit of the place, especially focusing on the Returns Shop and the Social Club.

This Centre, which at its height employed almost 2,000 people, not only shaped the city of Peterborough but was also nationally significant in the cataloguing and distribution trade – it wasn’t just a job, it was a way of life.

A continuation of Eastern Angles’ Forty Years On project, Delivered by Freemans will focus on celebrating and remembering this strand of Peterborough’s history.

At the moment we are interviewing employees of the company about their experiences and memories of Freemans. If you know anyone involved in the company who would like to share their stories, please email Lauren Kendrick on pboro@easternangles.co.uk

We're also looking for volunteers to help with the research.  If you’re interested please email Lauren Kendrick too: pboro@easternangles.co.uk.

Most work will take place on Wednesday mornings at Peterborough Archives at Peterborough Central Library.

Performing at The Undercroft at Serpentine Green Shopping Centre from Thursday 26th October - Sunday 5th November, this Heritage Lottery funded ‘documentary musical’ will resonate with Peterborough residents and anyone who remembers of culture of catalogue shopping.

Keep an eye out on our website for when tickets go on sale.
