Raising the curtain on medieval East Anglia
27 February 2023Thanks to National Lottery players and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, we're taking Medieval Miracles beyond the stage and inviting people of all ages to discover the East Anglia of the 1400s in a large-scale heritage project spreading across the region.
The project will focus on the "N-Town Cycle", a series of 42 plays that tell the story of the world from creation to doomsday. Obscured by decades of misattribution, ignorance and false trails, we're making this hidden heritage come alive.
Speaking about the project Eastern Angles’ Artistic Director Ivan Cutting said: “Everyone knows about the famous mystery cycles in the northern cities of York, Chester and Wakefield, but East Anglia not only had a bigger one, but a bunch of other plays too which were performed all over the places from villages to big towns. It’s long been my ambition to mount this fabulous heritage on stage in a modern accessible translation. We are grateful to National Lottery players for helping us make this ambition a reality.”
This spring and summer there'll be opportunities for you to put your hand to embroidery, design a stained-glass window, or step into the medieval history of your local area by joining a guided heritage walk. Our aim is to make this local medieval heritage accessible to all, so there will be a vast array of activities on the horizon and lots to explore in this truly ambitious project.
Whilst exact details of these community events are still to be confirmed, booking is already open for the Medieval Miracles spring tour. Follow us on social media and sign up to our mailing list to hear all about the events happening on your doorstep soon!
