Solar panels at the Eastern Angles Centre

27 October 2022

Earlier this year we launched our new Environmental Plan for 2022/23 and an Environmental and Sustainability Policy. We've made several changes to our work as a result of this new plan and this morning our plans for installing solar panels on the roof of the Eastern Angles Centre came one step closer!

Our Production Manager Steve met with the East Green Electricity team to talk through the practicalities of working on our site and discuss the finer details on the installation of the panels. After months of planning, we are delighted that work is now getting underway! Once the installation is complete, we will then be able to monitor the energy supply from the panels.

Two men stand on a scaffolding tower and hold up a banner for East Green Energy against a wall.

The installation of solar panels is just one part of our new Environmental Plan that aims to reduce our annual Carbon Dioxide emissions by 15% in the next year. We know that our work can negatively impact the environment, but we are committed to promoting environmental sustainability in everything we do so that we can minimise this impact.

Other actions that we have recently taken to reduce our emissions include:

  • Installing draft excluders on outside doors (where possible)
  • Building a compost bin in our community garden and putting food waste bins in our kitchens
  • Capturing data on audience travel to our venues so that we access which venues we tour new productions to
  • Buying second-hand furniture for the newly expanded Eastern Angles Centre

The installation of solar panels has been made possible thanks to funding from Theatres Trust and The Wolfson Foundation.
