Summer Engagement

11 September 2023

As some sunny weather returns to Suffolk, we're taking the time to look back at our recent engagement projects that made Summer 2023 one to remember!

Stowmarket Green Dome Weekend

Earlier this summer we took our geodesic dome out to the field of Combs Ford Primary School for a free community festival all about how we can make a greener world. We collaborated with a wide range of fantastic local organisations and artists to put together two days of activities, including puppetry making, collage creating, story writing, live music, poetry, talks and more, all making for a real community event! This weekend also marked the start of our Market Town Bound project which will see us visit market towns across Babergh & Mid Suffolk with various creative community engagement projects.

Speaking about the event, our Artistic Director Jake Smith said: "It was an amazing time for me to join the company and see the fantastic commitment to young people and the infrastructure and facilities Eastern Angles is able to offer to community groups and organisations. The Green Dome was a weekend of cultural experience, filled with music, dance, drama and puppetry. It encouraged and gave a voice to young people and their families on how they could reduce carbon pollution in an act to combat climate change. A huge thank you to Babergh & Mid Suffolk District Councils Community Development Grant for making this and future events possible. I look forward to our future events."

Take a look at what we got up to...

Holiday Club 2023

Last month saw us hold our third edition of Holiday Club! For three weeks, 21 young people joined us for an exciting programme of activities. Week 1 included dance workshops, musical theatre, and a visit from Suffolk Archives. Week 2 saw the group write their own songs, make their own films and paint their own ceramics. The final week was all about stories and theatre as local playwright Martha Loader helped the group make their own shows, leading up to a celebration and performance with family and friends on the final day.

As the dust settled on another busy summer, we had a lovely message come in from two very proud grandparents: "I just wanted to say what an excellent experience my grandchildren had at holiday club this year. It’s such a brilliant way of getting them active...attending Holiday Club has really helped with their confidence.  So lovely to hear them look forward to attending and learning so much...You and your team are amazing and we are very grateful that they were able to attend. Many thanks, long may this service continue to be provided for children who could not otherwise afford it. You all get 5 stars from myself and my husband."

With such heartwarming feedback we're already excited for next summer's Holiday Club and for other exciting engagement projects coming up in the future!
