Welcome to the Undercroft!
14 September 2016Engine Room kicks off in Peterborough
Engine Room is back this autumn with two new shows at The Undercroft at Serpentine Green Shopping Centre, Peterborough. Engine Room celebrates new writing and local Peterborough talent and we're delighted to be hosting the shows in our recently refurbished pop-up theatre.
Playing at The Undercroft this Autumn are...
Ground (October 6th - 8th) by Peterborough playwright, Aisha Zia
This is a play in development based on the experiences of people living in the city. We are inviting you to be the first to see this ‘scratch' performance, and get a glimpse of theatre-in-the-making!
"This will be an experimental piece, working with sonic and visual artists to create a mood piece that explores people's ambitions and what stops them from achieving", explains Aisha. "We want to show people trying, failing but never giving up, despite hardship. It's a play about the human will to keep going."
Aisha works with testimonies, gathered from people who've had real-life experiences, as well working closely with the cast to develop the characters.
Come and contribute to the development of this brand new piece of theatre!
Ground will be a ‘pay-what-you-can' performance - donations welcome after the show. But capacity is restricted so please reserve your ticket by ringing 01473 211498.
The (Fletton) Railway Children (October 26th - November 5th) by Julie Mayhew
Tickets: Adult £10, Child £5 Ring: 01473 211498
Come and join us for this imaginative and nostalgic re-telling of E. Nesbit's children's story. Julie Mayhew has updated this classic by transporting the youngsters to 1960s Peterborough. Expect Beatlemania, teenage rebellion, sibling solidarity and heaps of train enthusiasm all set against the backdrop of Dr. Beeching's drastic railway cuts.
You can see both these shows at our popular new Serpentine Green theatre venue - head for the Food Court, go down the escalator, and you'll find The Undercroft nestled below the shopping centre. Serpentine Green has an enormous free carpark and plenty of shops and cafes...so, why not make a day of it?!
